How To Upgrade from Lyric Pad 2 Data into Lyric Pad 3
If you follow these steps below exactly you will have a clean install of Lyric Pad 3 with your Lyric Pad 2 transferred into it
Differences Between Lyric Pad 2 and Lyric Pad 3
As a previous user of Lyric Pad you will immediately notice some major cosmetic differences when compared to previous versions.
The first major one is that Lyric Pad 3 is now split into two modes.
The first mode is "Create Mode" which is designed to be used when a user is preparing for a performance. This area includes functionality for creating new songs, editing songs, creating setlists, editing setlists and other file management functions.
The second mode is the "Performance Mode" which is designed for when you are actually going to perform or practice songs. Edit functionality is still available in Performance Mode.
Other Differences Between Lyric Pad 2 and Lyric Pad 3 include:
Performance Mode (When songs are displayed on screen)
Song Search / Add Song
Setlist Editor
Song Editing
File System
If you follow these steps below exactly you will have a clean install of Lyric Pad 3 with your Lyric Pad 2 transferred into it
- If you have not already done so, create a backup of your Lyric Pad 2 data (Just in case). If you are not sure how to do this the easiest way is to copy your /LyricPad/ dir to another dir using a file management app (files, total commander, xplore). eg /LyricPadBackup/
- First step is to open the google play store app on your device (must be the app, not the website) and browse to the Lyric Pad 3 store listing
- Purchase and install Lyric Pad 3. (Note: This will not affect your Lyric Pad 2 install in any way)
- Open Lyric Pad 3 and go through the on screen setup procedure. Once done close Lyric Pad 3
- For this next step you will need a file management app that has the ability to access private app data directories. Total Commander or X-Plore are both good choices for this.
- You need to copy the contents of the /LyricPad/ directory into the /Android/data/com.dna.lyricpad3/files/ directory. ie. Your lyric files should end up in /Android/data/com.dna.lyricpad3/files/Lyrics/
- Restart Lyric Pad 3. When LP3 starts it will convert the files into the new LP3 files format (read below about changes)

Other Differences Between Lyric Pad 2 and Lyric Pad 3 include:
Performance Mode (When songs are displayed on screen)
- Pinch zoom to increase/decrease text size on screen
- Swipe left and right to move to previous song or next song
- GUI elements such as metronome, mp3 bar, buttons, now/next display, etc can all be resized and repositioned
- All screen margins, colours and sizes are fully customisable
- All song events are now driven around a song timeline. This means that events can be triggered prior to a song commencing and at specific points in a song
- LP3 is completely run from the setlist whereas LP2 was run from a song. This means LP3 knows what song is next and what was before.
- Even if you dont use a specific setlist and just select songs one by one, LP3 will simply add these to the next song on the setlist.
- You can manage your setlist while a previous song is playing, without interrupting the backing track. ie. cue up the next song
- Easy to adjust an imported playlist on the fly
- All the automation options of LP2 plus the ability to jump to a particular location and the ability to scroll up as well as down.
Song Search / Add Song
- Quickly switch between song filter types such as song title, artist, category, genre, etc
- Search for a title or artist by typing in a song name
- Single or multiple song selection (Yes, you can add multiple songs at once to your set list)
- View songs from a single library or access songs from ALL of your libraries at once,
Setlist Editor
- Drag and drop setlist items (single or multiple) to reorder
- Setlist header items
- Automatically determines the setlist time (including allowance for time between songs)
- Save additional details about the setlist include title, date and notes
Song Editing
- Fully fledged text editing with bold, colours, italics, underlining, etc
- No LP2 style script tags
- All information saved in a data xml file
File System
- Every .txt lyric file now also has a .lp3 data file that goes with it. The .txt is the display portion and the .lp3 is an xml formatted data file that holds all of the other information
- All setlist files are now .xml files. This allowed us to store more information in setlists and provide additional functionality.
- All files are now stored in the path /Android/data/com.dnq.lyricpad3/files/ This path is a requirement of the android os. The /Lyrics/ , /Setlists/ and /Backing/ directories are within the /Android/data/com.dnq.lyricpad3/files/ directory
- Both the /Lyrics and the /SetLists directorys can now include subdirectory or "bands". To allow you to further organise your songs and sets.
