In most cases when users have trouble with backing tracks it is because of two things:
  1. The mp3 backing track files have not been put into the specified backing track directory in Lyric Pad
  2. There is no link between the lyric file and the backing track

Placing Files in the Correct Directory

Lyric Pad needs to know what directory to look for the backing track files in.
The user specifies the Backing Track directory in options / File Location Preferences / Backing Track Folder
This is the directory that the user must place the mp3 backing track files in for them to be available for use in Lyric Pad.
By default this directory is /Lyricpad/Backing/
(Depending on your file system it might be /mnt/sdcard/Lyricpad/Backing or something else similar)

Linking the mp3 Backing Track to a Lyric File

Linking a backing track to an mp3 file means that every time that particular lyric file is opened, the backing track will be activated.
There is two ways to achieve this:
  1. By the backing track file name being the same as the lyric file but with different extensions. eg. Brown_Eyed_Girl.txt will automatically be linked to Brown_Eyed_Girl.mp3; or
  2. Using the @!mp3 lyric tag

The @!mp3 tag is used to link an lyric file with an mp3 backing track.
If I had a lyric file and I wanted to link the backing track file this_is_my_backing_track,mp3 I would add the following line in the top few lines of the lyric file
@!mp3 this_is_my_backing_track

Other Backing Track Related Questions

Q: The backing tracks are starting automatically when I open the Lyric File. Can I prevent this?
A: Enable the option other display / Backing Track Start Paused

Q: Sometimes I dont want to use backing tracks when I perform. Can I turn them off?
A: The easiest way to do this is with your volume control on your device. Just turn your volume down to a muted state and you will not get any playback.
