I have released a small update today which may help your issue.
Lyric Pad 2 will now ask the user for permission to access storage areas of the device (if it has not already been granted permission) as per the modern android app guidelines.
If that still does not work for you can you try going into settings/apps/Lyric Pad./permissions and manually grant Lyric Pad "storage" permission.

Great patch. I will give it a try. I have noticed other apps ask and check for read/write permission to storage during install.

Under current install, when I checked LyricPad permissions, the only option was to remove access permission. So my guess is LyricPad didn't get read/write access in Android OS 7.0 at install/setup.

Opened LyricPad
Selected open lyric
LyricPad displays message: No lyric files could be found in your specified folder /sdcard/lyricpad/lyrics/ Please add lyric files to this folder or specify an alternate path in preferences.

The sdcard lyrics folder has many lyric txt files. Lyricpad doesn't seem to read the folder.

Can you tell why LyricPad continues to write to internal memory only and not read sdcard memory? It has full permissions.
Should I uninstall LyricPad, shut down, and reinstall?

Completely uninstalled LyricPad
Deleted all internal storage data folders
Installed clean new app from Google Play gave LyricPad storage access during install question pop up
LyricPad again created data folders in internal storage
Changed storage preference to SDcard
Closed Lyricpad
Opened LyricPad
Lyricpad displayed messages: Specified folders do not exist
Folder do exist in SDcard storage.

Why doesn't LyricPad recognise the SDcard folders after specifying in preferences?

Now a frustrated user!
